It’s Delightful To Be Noticed

Ok, doing a Neil Gaiman style approach to my news update posts. As in, Neil Gaiman’s blog style. Not as in urban fantasy magical realism. But I’ll throw that in if you ask nicely.

Anyway, the #RODLiveTweet on Twitter went off well last night, but I got tired and had to go to bed. On top of that I had to study, so LiveTweet time significantly hampers my ability to be educated. The #RODLiveTweet got featured on MangaBlog thanks to Brigid, who came up with the delightful tag line for my live tweeting exercise: Tweet or Die – a much more inventive name for my live blogging project than what I came up with. You might see that my Aishiteruze Baby Vol. 1 post was entirely overwhelmed by the #RODLiveTweet coverage, thanks to the catchy post title which took the glory away from my featured review. Apparently there hasn’t been a live blogging of manga before, Chris Sims did it with Tarot, but that’s a comic book. Still, he was the one who gave me the idea for #RODLiveTweet even if he doesn’t know it yet. With the magic of link notifications, he soon will.

What else has been happening in my life?

I now have an editor, of sorts, who gave me editorial advice on my novel which I’ve been working on for the first part of this year. I can’t enter it into NaNoWriMo now, because that would be cheating. I would like to help out with NaNoWriMo though, just a tip. Again, magic of link notifications might sort that one out. Anyway, I can’t say much about my novel apart from the fact that it’s about internet trolls. And I tried to be as empathetic as possible when writing it. Emphasis on tried.

Anyway, my editor told me that i have the skin of a story, but not the bones. Which is exactly the opposite of what most people get told when they approach a publisher about a novel they’re writing (usually it’s the bones of a story that needs a skin).

I initially wanted to be an illustrator as well as a writer/author/whatever you want to call somebody who writes these days, but I found that my stronger point is writing, and not illustrating. That and my stories are really hard to illustrate, particularly if you’re simulating a Twitter trending topic in the printed word.

I also finished reading Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas this week, it’s quite a trip in more ways than one. I suppose it had a lasting impact on me even after I finished reading it, because it’s like you’re trying to convince yourself it didn’t actually happen, but some of it actually did. It’s the first Hunter S. Thompson book I have read (my (Not Exactly) Fear and Loathing in Brisbane article was actually based on Thompson’s style found in He Was A Crook, his Nixon Obituary) and I really like his style. Shame the man is dead. I remember seeing the article saying that he killed himself in the paper when I was around 15, and I had no idea what exactly that meant until now, when I actually know who he is.

Maybe I’ll pop back in once in a while in between my studies. Good night, everybody, see you on Twitter. #RODLiveTweet will be updated when I have the time.
