I really do buy anime DVDs. The problem is that the artsy shows I like never get licensed here in Australia.
I’ve been watching Honey And Clover, right. The Americans licensed it but they won’t share with us. Eventually they might, but for now… they’re our middleman for the anime industry.
There’s got to be a better model for licensing anime in the future. Region coding locks up content and prevents it from getting to countries that want it, mainly because it didn’t sell in the country that owns the rights to it.
I’ll make this perfectly clear. I support the industry to a strong extent. But sometimes the industry doesn’t support me.
Mainly because what I like isn’t what the average person likes. I like a lot of locally licensed stuff but when it comes to more recent stuff that’s a bit out there, I’m out of luck.
So I’m going to mix up my anime schedule a bit. Some reviewed anime will be fansubs, most will be DVDs. All manga I review here will be licensed manga. Because the manga industry has been treating me pretty good lately. I mean, 3 Tezuka licenses in 3 years? Wow, good job manga industry.
