Osaka: Anime character confined to a 2D Universe
I had a conversation with otou-san today about a number of things, which was really interesting. My theory about why 2D Anime women can’t exist in the same universe as 3D people except in a Roger Rabbit style universe where they’re already in the same place seemed so plausible, that I recommend any 2D complex sufferer take into account the risk of Anti-Matter when fantasising about lolis or more mature 2D women. Chances are you might be informed, challenged, a little frightened, and astounded by the post that follows. It’s the wit and wisdom of otou-san and Asperger’s Anime Blogger, finally taking on REAL Geek Philosophy.

me: hey otou san
ultramouse: howdy do
me: well my dad gave me some good news, he gets paid soon
ultramouse: getting paid is good
me: that and I’ve ditched the afraid-to-commit promise girl
ultramouse: oh?
is that a good thing?
me: it’s been two weeks and still no word
i don’t deserve it
ultramouse: oh
well I can’t say as I can provide a lot of input on that, not knowing much
me: i don’t want to end up like Kaorin from Azumanga Daioh, fawning over a girl who doesn’t clearly state she loves me
ultramouse: well that’s a little different, she fell for a girl who probably wasn’t even a lesbian
me: Kaorin’s example transcends gender as a warning to men too
Sakaki couldn’t love me back neither, but that’s because I don’t exist in the same universe as her
ultramouse: you are in the 3d world? ![]()
me: yeah
long distance trans-dimensional relationships rarely work out well
and when they do you’re just stuck with a child you had with Yog-Sothoth or even a polyhedron baby like in a Bradbury story i read [Edit: The story is Tomorrow's Child by Ray Bradbury, I think it is anyway]
ultramouse: neither of those options sound good
and we all know how wilbur ended up
me: the bradbury story at least had a happy ending
the parents became polyhedrons too when they went into another dimension to rescue their kid
ultramouse: what story is that?
sounds interesting
me: it’s in I Sing The Body Electric! And Other Stories
ultramouse: I only ever read fahrenheit 451
which was really great
me: Bradbury’s more than a one trick pony
ultramouse: i believe it
me: his short stories are brilliant too
ultramouse: I have heard that
me: yeah
the only instance a 3D/2D relationship would work out is if 3D and 2D people existed in the same universe like in Roger Rabbit
otherwise anti-matter is a worry

me: argh stupid telemarketer called me
ran to the phone for nothing
ultramouse: I hate that
me: yeah
but back to extra-dimensional possibilities
even if a 2D person would cross from a 2D universe it is likely their body would transform into 3D
like in that bradbury story
crushing otaku dreams forever
ultramouse: have you seen those anime girl costumes that have masks?
freaking weird…
me: yeah
ultramouse: have you heard the principle of the “uncanny valley?” that’s right smack dab in the middle of the uncanny valley
me: only if a 2D person crossed into a 3D world they would look like a normal person
uncanny valley?
what’s that?
ultramouse: basically, when something made to look real looks just a bit “too” real
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_Valley
scroll halfway down, the chart pretty much says it all
me: i see it, i see it, an award winning Anime blog post is all there
ultramouse: actually quite a few anime bloggers have written posts on the subject
hehe
probably no coincidence that a japanese guy came up with the idea
me: yeah
ultramouse: although it usually applies to robots and thigns like that
me: in the book I’m illustrating there’s Anime people alongside different style cartoon people who represent the dominant “3D” majority
but the reason why such a thing works is because the Anime people were created by an ordained deity instead of a madman
who happens to be the “God of Manga“
lol
yeah
the balance in style represents my tale of ethnic difference and acceptance well
the test panels work out the balance between styles in a way that’s similar to how the guy who made Roger Rabbit constructed his images
yeah
also confirming my sanity, when I fanboy over anime girls I imagine what they would look like as 3D people
yeah
ultramouse: that is a good sanity test, yeah
me: it’s kind of like a more innocent version of imagining what celebs look like naked
ultramouse: hehe
me: yeah

yeah
this has been a fascinating 20 mins
ultramouse: hehe
wisdom comes in strange and silly places

i’m surprised Lelangir hasn’t gobbled up this tasty intellectual fanservice
ultramouse: does seem like his realm
although if you were talking about mecha instead of girls, iknight would be the guy for it too
me: oh iknight and his mecha
ultramouse: half of what he says is over my head because i’m not a gundam fan
Sent at 2:47 PM on Friday
me: yeah
i never saw gundam either
ultramouse: i’ve seen a couple
but i’m just not that into them
and I actually watched the whole last series

ultramouse: it’s kind of like in star trek TNG when laforge explains the made up technical crap
that’s gundam in a nutshell to me

me: yeah
i saved the science nerd philosophising into a word document for future reference
is taht ok?
ultramouse: but of course
me: because i am a fantasy/sci fi writer after all
yeah
ultramouse: i’d be happy to have inspired even a sentence
me: you helped me flesh out the seed of an idea
yeah

me: i’m having fun frightening my school buddy with scientific and psychoanalytic analysis of philosophical concepts
