Rare Manga Hunting: A Guide

Hunting down that which cannot be found easily.

Sometimes it’s hard to be an anime and manga fan in Sydney, because only a select number of shops have what you’re looking for. Luckily I found today both volumes of the FLCL manga, they weren’t on sale like Kinokuniya would have them but Borders has reasonably fair manga prices if you look hard enough.

There exist manga series which are out of print, which can be found used on the internet or even in stock at specialist shops like Kinokuniya and Borders, but you would have to ask for them. Chances are if you live in Sydney, if Kinokuniya doesn’t have it, Borders tends to have it, and if Borders doesn’t have something, Kinokuniya tends to have it.

Sydney-siders have a unique dilemma if they are manga fans, because while Australia is an isolated country Sydney is the most anime and manga friendly city in Australia. You can pop up from Melbourne on a cheap Jetstar flight if you’re that desperate to get the latest volumes of One Piece, but for most hobbyists this is a bit pricey if you do it regularly, so for Melbournites online ordering is your best option.
